Day 01: Borobudur Temple and Prambanan Temple

You can see it in the two most respective and iconic spots, not only in Yogyakarta but also in Indonesia. Borobudur Temple and Prambanan Temple are two grand temples that represent two different religions. On your first day in Yogyakarta, you will be taken to visit Borobudur Temple. A friendly and professional driver will pick you up at your hotel in Yogyakarta at 7.30 in the morning. You will start your trip to Borobudur, the greatest Buddhist temple on earth.
Being established by Syailendra Dynasty in the 9th century, Borobudur Temple is now the world’s heritage. It becomes the main destination where Buddhist people from all around the world come to worship every Saka, their traditional new year. Borobudur Temple has a grandeur design with three different main areas. They are called Kamadatu, Rupadatu, and Arupadatu. Each of the areas represents the stage of people’s life. Adopting Mandala concepts, Borobudur Temple is loaded with philosophical values and cosmology symbols. The walls of the temple display reliefs that tell about Buddha Mahayana.
After exploring Borobudur Temple, you will have an enjoyable lunch in a nearby local restaurant. Then, you will continue your tour to another iconic temple located in Yogyakarta, Prambanan, just after lunch. Unlike Borbodur that becomes a sacred worship site for Buddhist people, Prambanan Temple is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia. The complex of Prambanan Temple consists of 240 different temples that vary in sizes, with Siwa Temple being the biggest. A large number of temples you can find in the complex makes Prambanan called “A Thousand Temple”. Prambanan is also popular with another name, Roro Jonggrang Temple. The name is taken from a traditional story about Princess Roro Jonggrang told by local people.
Visiting Prambanan Temple will also give you a chance to learn the history of it. Being established in the 9th by Isyana Dynasty, Prambanan adopts typical Hindu architecture that also grows in India. However, local people believe that the temple was built by evil spirits led by Prince Bandung Bondowoso to impress Roro Jonggrang. Whatever reason behinds the construction of the temple, visiting Prambanan will be a great experience. The temple is dedicated to three main Gods of Hindu people. They are Siwa, Wishnu, and Brahma. Meanwhile, the reliefs of the Prambanan Temple tell the epic story of Ramayana. The late visit to the temple will also allow you to enjoy a fantastic sunset view from there and you will be transferred to your hotel after that.
Day 02 : Yogyakarta City Tour – Kalibiru Tour
As one of the main tourist destinations in Java Island, you will not run out of ideas to spend your time in Yogyakarta. Your second-day tour of the city will be started quite early in the morning. For the first destination, you will be driven to Keraton Yogyakarta. This is the official resident of the current Yogyakarta royal family. With hundreds of years of history, Keraton Yogyakarta will be the rightest place where you can learn about Javanese traditions and culture.
Entering the main area of Keraton Yogyakarta, you will be accompanied by “abdi dalem”, the palace’s staff that also serves as tour guides. You will be amazed by the traditional architecture of the palace and historical items kept inside. After an enjoyable visit to Keraton Yogyakarta, you will continue your tour to Tamansari Palace. Located nearby Keraton Yogyakarta, Tamansari functioned as a royal bathing palace for female members of the reigning Sultan in the past. The restricted rule forbade males to enter Tamansari Palace. However, with no princesses or queens to take a bath in the place anymore, male visitors are now allowed.
At the end of your tour to Tamansari Palace, you will continue your trip to Kalibiru, in the southwest of Yogyakarta. The journey to the national park will take about 1.5 hours with lunch at a nearby local restaurant in between. Kalibiru is a lush green national park with Menoreh Mountain as the background. To visit the national park, you need to prepare your stamina since it requires you to go up to hills. On your way up to the national park, you will pass through stunning green forests. With the overlooking to Menoreh Mountain, you will find that Kalibiru is so refreshing. Once you reach the main area, you will see breathtaking scenic views around it.
You will stay in Kalibiru up to 4 pm before continuing your journey back to the main city of Yogyakarta. With an hour-journey to return to the city, you will have your dinner on the way. Then you can have a location of your option where you want the driver to drop you off to end the tour.
