Situated some 4 hours drive from Surabaya, Mount Bromo is a part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park that includes a large area of 800 square km. At 2,392 meters tall, Mt Bromo is not among the tallest of Indonesia’s mountains but its still beauty lies in its incredible setting. All of you will hear is the click of cameras as tourists take the picture to capture the amazing scene of Mount Bromo in the foreground with Mount Semeru smoking in the distance place and the sun shining brightly, quickly rising on the sky.
The unnatural landscape has spurned countless legends and myths. Mount Bromo has main significance for the Tengger people who believe that this was the place where a courageous prince victimize his life for his family. The people here appease the Gods once a year during the Kasada festival that hold every year where offerings of vegetables, chickens and money are thrown into the crater of Mount Bromo.
To go to Mount Bromo, tourists can fly to Juanda International Airport in Surabaya. There are direct flights to Surabaya from Jakarta and Bali. From Surabaya, the tourist can book a travel agent or they can drive from Surabaya-Pasuruan-Wonokitri-Mount Bromo. The trip will take 2-3 hours. It is the best for the tourists to leave Surabaya at 23:00 PM – 24:00 AM, so they can arrive in the Mount Bromo when sunrise. For the addition the tourists can stay overnight at one of the hotels at Prigen, Tretes.
